CULTURAL AND COMMUNITY OUTREACH PROGRAMS
Culture and university extension activities supplement those of education and research both inside and outside the university, extending to society as a whole.
Thus, knowledge and services are placed at the community’s disposal.
In this context ICB has contributed in an intense and varied manner, applying its knowledge and its experience in the dissemination of this knowledge and providing valuable services.
We present below some of ICB’s activities in the area of culture and extension. These activies are coordinated by a the Institute´s Culture and University Extension Committee and by Coordination Offices existing in each Department.
SPECIFIC PROGRAMS DEVELOPED AT ICB
SUBUNIT OF ICB IN MONTE NEGRO, RONDÔNIA
Current activities of ICB5
a) Research in the area of neglected diseases: malaria, leishmaniasis, filariases, toxoplasmosis, deep mycoses and Chagas disease.
b) Specialized Medical Clinic of USP – medical treatment of tropical diseases with scholars of medicine, nursing, biomedicine, dentistry and speech and hearing therapy from Rondônia and other states. Besides the monthly activities, there are 2 major annual events that bring together 80 academics of each activity. January and July of each year.
c) Research and healthcare activities in the states of Acre (Assis Brasil) and Lábrea (Amazonas) Training of PSF (Family Health Program) health agents and counseling to the municipality of Monte Negro in the area of family and community medicine and disease prevention
d) Clinical and research laboratory, doctor’s offices, wireless Internet and computer center, teleconference, insect vivarium, accommodation for 60 students and auditorium.
ADVANCED LABORATORY IN ACRELÂNDIA, ACRE
In an agreement with the city council of Acrelândia, researchers and students of ICB maintain a Malaria Healthcare and Research Laboratory. They also provide medical care and laboratory services that benefit the population of this municipality.
With the limited resources of the city council and some government entities, It managed to radically change the healthcare scenario of the municipality.
BOOKS AUTHORED BY THE TEACHING STAFF OF ICB
Among the countless activities of the teaching staff of ICB, we emphasize the publication of a large number of books. A total of 162 books have been published by members of the teaching staff who participated as authors, editors or translators.

Electron Microscopy Facility
ICB provides Electron Microscopy services to researchers of USP and other institutions.
